On December 9-10, 2024, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held the highly anticipated Global Commodities Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. This forum focuses on how to promote sustainable trade of goods and increase their value in the context of addressing climate change. Ms. Li Lan, Director of the External Relations and Partnership Department of the International Bamboo and Vine Organization, was honored to be invited to participate in the theme forum on "Incorporating Natural Fibers into the Climate Action Agenda" and delivered insightful remarks during the guest dialogue session. Li Lan enthusiastically elaborated on the significant achievements of the International Bamboo and Vine Organization in promoting sustainable development, and delved into the unique properties and enormous potential of bamboo. She provided a detailed introduction to the application of bamboo in multiple fields, with a particular emphasis on the innovative applications and market prospects of bamboo fiber in sustainable fashion and textile industries. In the subsequent Q&A session, bamboo became the focus of discussion, attracting representatives from United Nations agencies, participants from Senegal and Greece, as well as heads of commodity organizations such as cotton and linen. They had in-depth and enthusiastic exchanges and discussions on the cultivation of bamboo, technological innovation of bamboo products, and the development of bamboo fiber composite materials.
